I've had my case for a year, and its taken more than its fare share of abuse, including several drops, and even a few coffee spills. While it shows its age, its done a great job - which is why I'm insisting on buying another one.
As an added bonus, I put my bus pass under the clear plastic on the back of the unit. I just flash the back of my ipod to the bus driver, thus I never have to dig my pass out of my wallet (and thus never loosing my pass).

Over the course of our family's experience with Ipod's, we've tried a variety of cases--leather, flip open, silicone pockets, cloth/knitted sleeves, etc. This one is by far superior to the others: The case completely protects the ipod-including the screen. My ipod has daily use and when I open my case, my ipod looks brand-new. The click wheel response is almost as good as a naked ipod. There is a little more resistance than on the click wheel alone but after a day with this case, you won't even notice it.
I would say the only draw back to this case is that I have to remove it to connect my ipod to my ipod stereo system. Since the case snaps together and depends on a tight fit, this frequent opening of the case makes mine easy to open if I drop my ipod. I'm just about to purchase my third of these cases--over almost three years of use, I don't think thats unreasonable.
